About Nan Desu Kan
NDK started in 1997 as a very small anime festival at the Tivoli Student Union on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. Since then, we have grown to the largest anime convention in 13 surrounding states, excluding Texas. We pride ourselves on offering a warm and welcoming convention atmosphere with excellent programming, cultural material, and appearances from our wonderful Guests of Honor. For us, the love of the anime community isn’t just something we say. And Japanese culture is not just used as a nifty side feature on our schedule; It’s our purpose for existing and a mandate of our Nonprofit Charter. Our mission is to further the knowledge of Japanese Art, animation and culture, and welcome people from all over the region under our roof.
But if you’ve ever been with us before, you know that NDK is about much more than that.
. While we are a Japanese Culture and Anime Convention, it’s really about making a place for people to belong. Our highest goal is to make a space that is accepting, kind, fun and safe for anyone who attends. We work hard every year to try to create an atmosphere where anyone can come as they are and feel like they’ve come home.
NDK is also proud to be a place dedicated to community and inclusivity. We welcome people of all fandoms, backgrounds and identities…and have for our whole existence.
We choose charities that mean something to the community both locally and nationwide. We actually care about the wellbeing of our attendees, and create spaces for interaction, relaxation and meditation. We promote and prioritze self care, and offer community resources to our population for after the convention is over.
NDK is a labor of love, created by over 250 Volunteer Staff Members.
